Bundesliga (Youngsters making their presence felt)

NOTE: Players considered born after Jan 1, 1995, having played for any amount of time for their respective teams in 2013-14 season.

MAXIMILIAN MEYER (FC Schalke 04)

DOB:            18/09/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION:  AM,Wing
KIT NO:       7

Max's breakthrough came in the 12-13 season, when several key players were injured for Schalke 04. The youngster known for his trickery and pace, grabbed onto his opportunity and never let go. Schalke, after having a rather unimpressive start tot the 13-14 bundesliga campaign  threw him in for the first time in Schalke's 4-0 loss to Werder Bremen. The youngster has scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist in 16 appearances already this season, 7 of which saw him come off the bench. This young dribble master is tipped to be the next big thing having already been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. Although, now that he has signed an extention with Schalke, reportedly upto 2018, he can concentrate on his Game entirely.

LEVIN OZTUNALI (Bayer Leverkusen)

DOB:            15/03/1996
AGE:            17
POSITION: CM,DM
KIT NO:       15

Levin, a German-Turkish youngster, plays for Bayer Leverkusen has been making his presence felt at the mere age of 17 years. The youngster spent 7 years in the Hamburg youth ranks, before moving to Leverkusen in 2013. And soon he had his first chance, albeit it was just for 3 minutes, against SC Freiburg. Since then,  the younster has made 2 more substitute appearances for the club. This youngster, seems to possess the ability to lunge into tackles successfully, to break down advancing moves whilst also attempting to create something for the forwards to latch onto. A big future awaits this young man, and could in the future, take over the reins from Sami Khedira.

MARC-OLIVER KEMPH (Eintracht Frankfurt)

DOB:            28/01/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION: CB
KIT NO:       36

This young defender, made his first appearance this season for the club in Frankfurt's 1-0 victory over French side Bordeaux in the Europa League. He made another appearance in the bundesliga, having come on as a substitute for the last 17 minutes for the club. The youngster has already been linked to big clubs like Juventus and Borussia Dortmund and one might say his positional sense is even better than it actually is considering he's decided playing time over a big move to a big club. Maybe sometime in the future, Juventus would come calling again.

NIKLAS STARK (FC Nurnberg)

DOB:            14/04/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION: CDM,CM
KIT NO:       16

One of those players, who's mentioned a lot less in the press, but whose contribution to the team is immense. This hard tackling youngster, is known for sweeping attacks under the rug with his interceptions and timely tackling. At such a young age, he has already been linked with Internazionale as the nerazurri continue their search for a hardman in midfield. Can this lad be their cheap, yet effective solution? The youngster has already made 12 appearances this term and clubs continue to monitor his progress.

DAVIE SELKE (Werder Bremen)

DOB:            20/01/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION: CF
KIT NO:       26

This tall German, has made 3 appearances for Werder Bremen this term. His height helps him win many aerial duels and makes him an aerial threat from set pieces too. Selke's debut came against Hannover 96 when he came on for 27 minutes towards the end. The youngster plays the role of traditional Centre Forward and big things could come from him.

HANY MUKHTAR (Hertha Berlin)

DOB:            21/03/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION: AM
KIT NO:      34

The youngster made his debut against the mighty Bayern Munich as he come on as a substitute in Hertha Berlins' 3-2 loss the German giants. Predominantly an attacking midfielder, he has also been deployed down the right wing and played a bit deeper as a box to box midfielder this season. Having made 4 substitute appearances this season, he will be hoping to continue impressing the coach and win his place in the starting line up. He also made his break through into the German U18 squad this season as he continues his progress.

LEON GORETZKA (FC Schalke 04)

DOB:            06/02/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION: CM
KIT NO:       8

In June, having snubbed big clubs like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and even Real Madrid, the young prodigy made his move to FC Schlake 04 from VFL Bochum. He made his debut for Schalke against Hamburg and was taken off after 68 minutes. He is not known for dribbling or goal scoring, but his ability to pick out a pass and ball control are desirable. Already having made 8 appearances this season, Leon also has Champions League experience now. Tipped to be a great player, will he fulfil his potential?

NIKLAS SULE (TSG Hoffenheim)

DOB:            03/09/1995
AGE:            18
POSITION: CB
KIT NO:      25

The big defender, has made 9 appearances for Hoffenheim this season. He is, as Arsene Wenger would describe "A modern Centre Half". His passing along with his positioning and interceptions, make him a hard man to get past for attackers. He also offers huge aerial threat from set pieces and wins most of his aerial duels. The younster is also not afraid to throw himself into the path of the attacker to block shots. His consistency is another attribute that makes him a strong force to prevent the keeper needing to pull the ball out from the back of the net over and over again.

TIMO WERNER (VfB Stuttgart)

DOB:            06/03/1996
AGE:            17
POSITION: CF,Wing
KIT NO:      19

At the mere age of 17, Timo Werner has broke through into the Stuttgart first team and is a first choice player now. Being one of the first choice player at this mere age speaks volumes for itself. This 17 year old has already played in 13 games for Stuttgart, scoring 3 and setting up 4 goals in the process. He gets past defenders with his driblling abilities and loves the old "One Two" with team mates to set lay them up in front of goal. The youngster has already been linked to big clubs, but his coach believes the prodigy has his feet firm on the ground and will continue to work hard, which as a football fan, is a great thing to hear. A huge future awaits.

JONATHAN TAH (Hamburg SV)

DOB:            11/02/1996
AGE:            17
POSITION: Def
KIT NO:      28

17 year old Cameroonian German defender and hot shot Jonathan Tah. The young defender is already so good that both Cameroon and Germany will probably be hoping to secure his services for the respective national sides. In 11 appearances this season for HSV, he has started in 10 games. Another defender, who likes passing the ball around and makes timely interceptions. His positional sense is another aspect of his game that is very impressive. Another player who is a regular starter for Hamburg at the age of 17.

Player Focus: Kevin Strootman - A Midfield Enforcer

Add caption It would not be wrong to say that the fate and the key to success of any team is often decided by its midfield. A midfielder performs the most pivotal task of linking the defence and the attack of his team. We often easily recognize the scintillating skill of wingers, playmakers and deadly goal machines but one must not forget to appreciate the most complex job performed by midfielders. A great midfielder is probably the biggest asset for any team and one player in modern football who certainly looks destined to greatness by mastering this supreme role is Kevin Strootman. Kevin Strootman began his professional footballing career with the Netherlands’ oldest professional football club, Sparta Rotterdam, as a genuine box-to-box midfielder and has continued to develop on this trait. The energetic Dutchman is one of the most effective players in world football when it comes to the art of tackling, winning possession and intercepting the passes. In 2012-13 Europa Leagu

Arsene : On his own terms.

‘His performance levels consistently for 20 years have been unbelievable. And you’d have to say, I do go along the line of, “Be careful what you wish for”                 It seems nigh on incredible to me that the most outspoken, forthright defence of Arsene Wenger, has come from possibly a man who played much of his football engaged in a bitter, rancorous duel with Wenger's creation : modern-day Arsenal.              Gary Neville was frequently described, bluntly, as being a player rather short on talent in his formative years, a fact that he too recognized. His response to this was singleminded and determined : graft. Years of effort that dovetailed in a glittering career, trophy-laden at Old Trafford with his boyhood club Manchester United. As such, a decade after the Invincibles took away the collective breath of every fan fortunate enough to watch English football, these very characteristics espoused by Neville seem to

Manuel Pellegrini; Tactical Genius

Manuel Pellegrini took over from Roberto Mancini only a season after the Italian managed to win the Premier League title ahead of local rivals Manchester United. An unsuccessful 2012-13 season saw the blue side of Manchester lose their title to Sir Alex Fergusson, knocked out from the Champions League group stages and also lose the FA cup final to Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic owing to a late Ben Watson header. It seemed the investment put into the club and the return was not something the owners appreciated and it seemed inevitable that Mancini would make way. Manuel Pellegrini played his entire career at Chilean side Universidad De Chile. He retired early at the age of 33 as he believed his skill at Civil Engineering would be essential in rebuilding after the earthquakes that had just taken place.  After managerial stints in Chile and Argentina, Pellegrini was recruited by the yellow submarine. He led them to their record 3rd and 2nd place finishes in the

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro : He Who Must Be Named.

His time has come. "I don’t want to talk about the Golden Ball, I just do what I do out on the pitch; the decision is not up to me." -Cristiano Ronaldo The FIFA Ballon d’Or award has become a tad monotonous over the last 5 years or so, as it has effectively been reduced to a personal tussle between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The last 4 years have seen Messi clinch the trophy with Ronaldo just falling short.   Mere statistics will tell us that Ronaldo has conjured majestic performances in these last four years, deserving to be called the Best in the world but it pales in comparison to Messi’s out-of-the-world performances combined with the continued success of the footballing juggernaut called FC Barcelona. Fans of the former Manchester United winger have become so disgruntled with this trend that rumours of a conspiracy against Ronaldo have often been propagated. Two Of A Kind 2013 has provided us with a sudden shift in the balance of power. Me

From MAZACAR to WIZACAR

Remember the season of 2011-12 when Chelsea FC won the UEFA Champions League? Many impeached Chelsea’s defensive strategy. They accused Chelsea of ‘Parking the Bus’. What Chelsea exactly did was they occupied almost all defensive space by letting the opposition have possession and then countered as fast as possible without committing too many men forward. Some may call it ‘Parking the Bus’ but it worked unlike AC Milan who failed miserably. The Scenario changed when Chelsea signed Oscar from Internacional and Eden Hazard from Lille. These signings brought a drastic change in Chelsea’s playing style under Roberto Di Matteo. Chelsea’s attitude changed from defensive to attacking. The mid-field trio MAta-haZAard-osCAR had been life saving substantially after Drogba’s exit and signing of Torres being a flop. They provided young and fresh legs with quality play making resulting into an influential mid-field partnership. Chelsea scored 147 goals, their best ever in 2012-13.
